Weekly activity for June 26: Outdoor cleaning supplies
Monday: As we usually start, let's take some time to reflect and analyze what kinds of things we actually do now. Not what we have done in the past, but actually do now.
What kind of outdoor cleaning do you do? Patio and patio furniture? Cars and RVs? Windows on the house and garage? Garage? Driveway and sidewalks? Take the day and evening to think about it and come back to it. Remember, our lives change. Our energies change. Our time changes. What kinds of things did you used to do, and that now you hire someone else to do?
Tuesday: Now that you have a clear idea as to what things you do yourself, what supplies do you need and where do you store them? Take a minute to walk around the garage. Around the basement store room. The shed. Are things all spread out? Are there things you don't use anymore? Where would they be easiest to find when you needed them? Again, another day of thinking, planning, and thinking about, in a perfect world, where would you store these things? Or would you? Maybe you don't want to ever wash another window. OK. Is that possible? Have you ever asked yourself if it would be possible to not do the things you really don't enjoy? Or have you just gone on doing them because "that's the way you have always done it?"
Wednesday: Today is your day to get dirty. Go around to all the locations which currently house all those supplies for outdoor cleaning. Collect everything together. What is damaged and no longer usable? What did you buy and have never used? Set these aside. What was inherited and never used? Set all these aside.
What do you actually still use? How often? Will it freeze? Does it need to be stored where there is heat, or can it be stored someplace else? Collect all the things you still use.
Take this opportunity to wash the shelves, cabinets, and storage areas. Sweep and clean floors and check for pests (rodents, insects, etc.). If you find any, now is a good time to mitigate. Set out traps, call a fumigator, or whatever is needed to rid your house of unwanted pests.
Thursday: Put away the supplies you use in a convenient, clean storage area. Decide how you want to spend your time and what outside cleaning you will actually get to, and what you can have someone else do (or, not get done.)
Don't second guess yourself. Make a decision and stick by it. If something is in the dispose-of stack, leave it there.
Friday: Check into how to dispose of any unneeded chemicals, bins, rags, brushes, and so on. Come up with a plan on where and when to rid your space of these items. Some may be re-cycle, others hazardous waste at the county site, others just thrown out. But set a schedule to have them all gone - say in a week? Two? No longer than a month.
Great! Little by little, you are refreshing your supplies so they correspond with your current life style. It's not easy, but much easier in little, easily defined tasks.
I'll have more easy-to-accomplish organizing next time.
Until then, sit back and enjoy your accomplishments! Give yourself a little pat on the back.
Remember, take little steps to reach your goals.
